The Sangeet or Garba

Individuals preparing for a Hindu wedding are aware that these marital celebrations are lively, meticulously organized events infused with rich cultural traditions. Beyond the fundamental aspect of uniting two individuals on a physical, spiritual, and emotional level, a Hindu wedding is a convergence of two families, marked by prayer and jubilation. The essence lies in finding a balance between the couple's expectations and the integration of their respective family customs. With numerous rituals and smaller ceremonies leading up to the main event, the wedding ritualistically binds the couple and both families for eternity.
Preceding the actual wedding, there's a gathering known as the sangeet or garba (depending on regional backgrounds), where families gather to sing, dance, and bask in the joy of the impending union. Aptly named, "sangeet" translates to "sung together." Each family side presents a traditional folk song to warmly welcome the other, and family members may even engage in spirited performances, fostering a celebratory atmosphere and friendly competition.
